Ventilated seats — perforation

Perforation to the factory pattern or made to order.

Ventilated seats have thousands of holes in the cover for the air to pass through. In restoration this is not a cosmetic detail: sealing the perforation with paint or filler shuts the ventilation down, and the seat then looks good and doesn't work.

We do two things: restore such seats keeping the holes clear, and perforate new covers — to the factory pattern or to a pattern ordered by the customer.

How we do it

  • Agreeing the pattern: hole density, hole diameter, layout of the panels.
  • Punching the leather to the agreed pattern.
  • Perforation — holes made after colouring, not before, so the finish doesn't close them up.
  • Checking the airflow once the seat is reassembled.

Restoring existing seats

The most common problem we see here is a seat "restored" somewhere else: the colour is even, but the ventilation has stopped working because the paint went into the holes. Clearing that perforation is sometimes possible, but not always — occasionally the finish has to be stripped and the job done from scratch.

If your car has ventilated seats, mention it when asking for a quote. It changes the process, not just the price.
